Vaccinations!
So this is a topic I find so important to address, it is one issue I feel strongly enough that i can openly discuss it with others! For those who don't have children I am not sure if this topic has much importance. For myself and others who do have children the choice to have our children vaccinated falls into our laps.
It wasn't until last semester in my microbiology class did this topic really hit home for me. I actually had the opportunity to learn about the viruses and diseases that can be prevented with a vaccination. Do all vaccinations work at all times for every person ? I imagine the answer is no! But if a vaccination can prevent disease for the majority of people, that is good enough for me! The reason that diseases like polio and small pox are non existent in this country is due to vaccinations! These sicknesses where epidemics and was untreatable for a long time! But there is a good chance that these diseases could return if the population continues to boycott vaccinating there children. The innocent children! These children don't have a choice!
So the largest argument I hear about why individuals are choosing to bypass vaccinations for there little ones is the rumor that vaccinations can cause autism in children. Which after extensive research I have found that there is no proof that vaccinations cause autism. It is suggested , but i believe to be completely untrue. I am not saying that i am okay with my son getting autism if it could be prevented but i would rather he have autism which is treatable then bury him knowing i could have prevented it. It sounds extreme but if people really researched and read the benefits that come along with vaccinating it out weighs the negatives! Not only does getting vaccinated protect yourself but it protects others as well. Peoples bodies and build up immunity and diseases like polio can become non existent. The arguments I get a lot too is I have never been vaccinated and I was fine or I know someone who was vaccinated and still got it. But having the mentality that it would never happen to me is foolish and unrealistic. Yes it might not ever happen to you or someone you know but it is the peace of mind of being protected and if it did happen to you it might be too late. Its like life insurance or health insurance. I just want to ask those individuals who opt out of vaccinating this... Could you live with yourself if your child contracted something that ended there life that could have been prevented by getting vaccinated? As an adult we do have the right to say no to vaccinations but your children don't get the option so wouldn't you want to protect them?

Blog #3 - advertisementChoose a particular advertising campaign (not just a single commercial) and discuss the techniques of persuasion used in that campaign. Is the advertiser presenting an honest view of the product?
Tobacco tumor causing, teeth staining, smelly, puking habit...... A catchy phrase to say the least and not to mention memorable. This phrase because popular when I started the D.A.R.E. program back in third grade! This was just the beginning to be quite honest, their was a time when there were more commercials and advertisements to promote smoking then to make people aware of the dangers of smoking. Things have differently changed, and anti smoking/ anti drug commercials have become very clear and vivid about how dangerous these products can be. The anti tobacco campaigns have reached a new heights!
The point is very clear these days on the outcome of using any form of tobacco. Forget yellow teeth and bad breath, it has now gone straight to the extreme of death. By no means is this false advertising or exaggerating. using tobacco can lead to many diseases and illness that can lead to death. The commercial that affected me the most would have to be the one with the remote babies crawling on the sidewalk of a busy street. Odd to say the least! But its the message that is added the got me the most. The advertisements take the number of deaths per year and give some sort of extreme visual to express the number. This particular commercial uses baby's crawling all over the side walk and crying,
Although these type of advertisements are extreme, they are effective for sure. Very to the point and in your face but who will forget something as powerful and real as that.I hope this type of aggressive advertising continues!

Blog #2
I decided to make my second blog about one of the presentations that was given in class last week....
Romantic comedies? Do they affect relationship's/individuals? Do people take movies to literally?..... These were questions that I came up with after the presentation given by my fellow classmates. Being an admit movie goer myself and a fan of romantic comedies, it really made me think why I love those types of movies so much and why I am drawn in to them. Then I thought its not just me but a lot of my friends as well and not so much my guy friends but all my female friends. Is there a reason why women like or are drawn to romantic comedies besides it just being a good laugh.Or do women secretly or unknowingly wish these type of situations for their own lives?
I am not really sure how accurate research would be on this topic because it would all be opinion based. Even so I still wanted to write about it. I am not sure I need any answer saying either way. I can speak for myself and I like movies like this because I like the romance. I know that the love stories I see on the big screen are made up and serve as entertainment. At the same time I do take things from the movies and I suppose hope it could be a possibility in my own life. Silly I know! But who doesn't want to be happy and even if there is a struggle in the movie the couple always have some sort of happy ending. I cant speak for a ll women of course but what I do know about women is that we want to be loved and treated like princesses and have adventures and butterflies. We want our night and shining armor, that person who will fight for us! These movies present that, and on top of it there is humor as well so it makes it all so much more fun! Just some movies I can think of off the top of my head that I have thought about in my own life are... "A Walk to Remember", " He's Just Not That in to You", and No Strings Attached". That's just a view...Its so easy to pick certain things from movies and relate them to your own life at any given time.
I don't want to say I want my life to be a movie or that I believe these type of romantic situations could happen to me or anyone for that matter. I can say that maybe the reason I enjoy these types of movies so much is because it is nice to know that these type of things could happen. Maybe for those two hours you get to laugh and be given hope that love could be that amazing. I mean what could be wrong with that? I suppose if you can separate make believe from reality whats wrong with romantic comedies and living in a possibility.

This is going to piss some people off...sorry (blog assignment)
Why does everyone hate Michael Moore? Not just the causes or the opinions he has, but him as a person? Now with that said it makes me sound like I like the guy, and I cant really say I do or don't like him, I mean I don't know the guy personally. As you can guess by now though is I do have an argument on his behalf. Before I even begin I know this blog is not going to be well liked and I will have a lot of
"haters."Which is actually another reason why I chose this topic, I am interested to why he is so disliked.
Michael Moore was the creator of a couple well known documentaries such as, "Bowling for Columbine", "Fahrenheit 911", and "Sicko". I have seen two of these. When I saw Fahrenheit 911, I had no idea what is was about and no idea who Michael Moore was. So I feel like I went in to it with a pretty open mind. The movie was very interesting and knowing nothing about the movie I took a lot of the movie very serious and I was actually mad. When I spoke about it to others they had the exact opposite reaction. Yes they were upset but not for the same reasons I was. They were mad at Michael Moore! Not just mad..we're talking hate! In no way did they agree with anything from the movie? So okay I am not completely naive I understand there two sides to every story. With that said you would have to say his was very well thought out. Every point or fact (depending how you interrupt it) in the movie was backed up by evidence, whether it was a video, picture, or a witness. The topics at hand were researched and presented to be very factual.
Okay back to two sides to every story..... Michael Moore believed in something enough to put in the work of making it true. Like the scientific method.... you have a hypothesis and then you experiment in order to find out whether or not it is true or not. Isn't that what Michael Moore did? You might not like the outcome but how can you deny it. If you are faced in front of a jury doesn't the lawyer plea your case with evidence to decide guilty or not? I know I know, there is another lawyer and another side to the story... I have not heard the other side because no body has made anything speaking the other side? All the people who complain about how untrue his movies are and bias they are I don't see anyone else challenge the other half!
For the record I am not democrat or republican... There is no hidden agenda to this blog. I was just a person who was persuaded. A man had a opinion and did a dang good job of making me believe it. I have respect for Michael Moore because he backs up his comments and points with evidence. I know he isn't this wonderful man who is all rainbows and butterflies he is very in your face and down right rude at times. Even with that said I will continue to watch his movies and be amazed with the passion and hard working effort he puts in to what he truly believes and can prove.
